14/58: Put Your Hose Away

Part 14 of the excerpts from 100 Ways To Motivate Others

Why are many managers ineffective leaders? Because they’re fire fighters. A fire fighter doesn’t decide where the team goes. The fire decides.

A great motivator doesn’t fight fires 24/7. They lead people from the present into the future. The only time a fire becomes relevant is when its in the way to a future goal.

The unconscious manager let’s the fires dictate activity; while the concious leader let’s desired goals dictate activity..
